Digging Into the Word: Proverbs 2:1-9

It's been awhile, but this week I thought I'd continue in my Proverbs study. If you're just joining me in this, scroll to the bottom of this post and be sure to check out the links to the previous studies I have done. I'm just sharing a portion of the book of Proverbs, then sharing the thoughts I have written down in my Bible study journal on that portion of scripture. As always, I highly encourage you to do the same with your own study of the Bible. If you have any thoughts on this portion of Proverbs, I would love if you would share them down in the comments!

My son, if you receive my words,
And treasure my commands within you,
So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
Then you will understand the fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the way of His saints.
Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
Equity and every good path.
~Proverbs 2:1-9

From my journal

This section is pretty self-explanatory. If you listen to and obey these words (the words of the Bible), seek knowledge and wisdom, and seek to know and apply truth, you will have understanding. You will understand the fear of the Lord, you will find the knowledge of God. He will be your shield, your guard, and the preserver of your way. You will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path. Studying these words, God's Word, is important for you to gain Godly wisdom!

I think it's important to realize that none of this means you will have a perfect, smooth-sailing life. Trials will come in this life, even for the faithful. God's Word tells us this. But, we can have peace, understanding, and even joy when we know God and when have the wisdom to discern that He is ultimately in control.
